Important Aspects to Consider When Changing the Tyres on your Car
The tyres on a car are very important, as they are the only thing that makes contact with the road. Therefore, safety is very important, and with that in mind, here are a few things you should consider when replacing your tyres.
- Paring your Tyres – When changing the tyres on your car, you should always replace them by the pair, in other words, it is not a good idea to replace one front tyre, while leaving the other on worn. The reasons for this is that both front or rear tyres should have the same tread pattern and the same amount of wear, so always change both tyres on the front or rear.
- Tread Depth – The minimum depth of a tyre tread in the UK is 1.6mm, and any car with less thread depth than 1.6mm will not pass the annual MOT test. The tread pattern should be the same for all four tyres, and with auto repairs in Bexhill-On-Sea that also sell tyres, you can have them changed before the tread wears down too much.
- Tyre Inflation – The air pressure in the tyres should be as recommended by the manufacturer, and on most cars, there is a small metal plate on the inside of the door frame that tells you the recommended tyre pressure in PSI. If the tyres are over inflated, the handling of the car will be affected, and if the tyres are under inflated, you will use more fuel than you need.
In the event that you are not sure about the condition of your tyres, take your car to a tyre dealer and they will give you a free tyre check.
